Operation Smile

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you saw that on March 31, my sweet sweet grandma, Lillie Gagliardi, lost her short battle to lung cancer. My grandma was my best friend and my idol. She raised 3 amazing kids (my mom being one of them), and she had the most perfect marriage. She was also a woman extremely strong in her faith, and she was someone who loved giving. No joke, anytime a company sent my grandma anything asking for money, she always gave money. She knew what was important in life, and that’s something a lot of people still need to learn. She is the person who inspired me to devote my life to helping others.

My grandma’s absolute favorite charity was Operation Smile. She always preferred donations made to Operation Smile in lieu of birthday or Christmas presents. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Operation Smile, it’s a nonprofit medical service organization that provides cleft lip and palate repair surgeries to children worldwide, completely free of charge to the families. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. So many of these children would never have the chance to get the repair surgery without Operation Smile.

There’s an app called Charity Miles that is free for download from either the Apple Store or from the Google Play Store. If you turn this app on when you go for a run, walk, or bike ride, a donation will be made to the charity you choose for each mile you go by one of the app’s sponsors. I have created a team on Charity Miles called LillieGagliardi, and I would love to have you all download the app, join the team, and choose Operation Smile as your charity each time you work out!

Another amazing app I want to tell y’all about is called Donate a Photo, and this is seriously the easiest way in the world to raise money!! It’s a free download from the Apple Store or the Google Play Store. All you have to do is download the app, and each day you can donate one picture to whichever charity you choose, and for each photo donated, Johnson & Johnson donates $1 to the organization. Each surgery that Operation Smile does costs about $240, so just think, if you donated a photo a day to Operation Smile, in less than a year, you (with the amazing generosity of Johnson & Johnson) can donate enough to cover the cost of one more surgery!
